Associate/Assistant Professor in Malay Language (ALC) [NIE]
The Asian Languages and Cultures (ALC) at the National Institute of Education in Singapore comprises the Chinese, Malay, and Tamil Divisions. ALC’s vision is to work towards the mission of NIE and establish ALC as a Centre of Excellence for Chinese, Malay and Tamil Languages, Literature, Culture and Education. We aim to nurture excellent teacher-researchers devoted to the development and promotion of mother tongue language education, Asian values and cultures as pillars of Singapore’s national identity and harmony. Mother tongue language teachers who enrol in our programmes can expect to receive a firm academic foundation with current knowledge in education research. ALC’s research places emphasis on high-impact interdisciplinary content, pedagogical innovation, challenging existing theories and extending the prevalent boundary of Asian studies.
ALC invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for a faculty position in its Malay language and culture division. The Malay division of ALC provides training for Malay language teachers through both pre-service and professional development programmes in Singapore.
Requirements
Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Linguistics, with a strong interest not only in their specialized field/s of linguistics but also in at least one of the following: translation, bilingualism, first/second language acquisition, teaching Malay as a mother tongue/second language
Extensive experience and expertise in research in the above fields
Native or near-native competence in oral and written Malay and English
Demonstrate strong ability for effective undergraduate and graduate level teaching
Sufficient knowledge of the Singapore curriculum and the Singapore education system
A degree or diploma in education is preferred
Individuals with exceptional promise for or a proven record of research achievements in the field of emerging technologies such as Adaptive Learning powered by AI is preferred.
Responsibilities
Lead or collaborate on funded research projects and maintain a strong research and publication record
Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses, including academic supervision of undergraduate and graduate student research projects
Supervise and mentor undergraduate student teachers in their school teaching practice
Build connections with the local and global professional community
Undertake any administrative duties required as exigencies of the service
(For Associate Professor level) Mentoring of young faculty members and serve in the NIE/NTU committees, and offer professional services to schools, the Ministry of Education and other public education-related organizations on a request basis.

Persidangan Linguistik ASEAN telah diadakan buat pertama kalinya pada tahun 2000 dengan siri pertamanya berlangsung di Malaysia, diikuti Negara Brunei Darussalam (2002), Indonesia (2005), Thailand (2007), dan Malaysia (2011). Sepanjang penyelenggaraan PLA, PLM mendapat dukungan dan kerjasama daripada Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) dan Institusi Pengajian Tinggi sebagai rakan penganjur.
Secara umumnya, persidangan ini bertujuan menghimpunkan masyarakat linguistik di ASEAN ini untuk bertukar-tukar fikiran dan berkongsi wawasan ilmiah tentang penyelidikan terkini masing-masing. Secara khususnya, PLA VI 2024 mengangkat tema “Bahasa dan Kuasa” dengan objektifnya adalah seperti yang berikut:
Mendedahkan isu bahasa dan kuasa dalam dunia hari ini.
Membincangkan hasil kajian bahasa dan kuasa serta impaknya pada masyarakat hari ini.
Mengumpulkan idea untuk membentuk kesepakatan dalam jalinan kerjasama kebahasaan pada peringkat ASEAN.

Kolokium Teknologi dan Aplikasi Bahasa anjuran Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka dengan kerjasama Persatuan Linguistik Malaysia bersempena dengan Dekad Bahasa Kebangsaan 2021 Peringkat Pertubuhan Bukan Kerajaan akan diadakan pada 14 September 2021 (Selasa), pukul 8.30 pagi hingga 4.30 petang menerusi aplikasi Zoom.
Semua ahli Pertubuhan Bukan Kerajaan dialu-alukan untuk menyertai kolokium ini. Pihak kami menyediakan E-sijil tetapi terhad kepada 500 orang peserta sahaja.
